Matt Damon plants potatoes on Mars, Bruce Willis saves the world from killer asteroids, people are frozen and reawakened, spaceships travel at warp speed, aliens visit Earth, and Matthew McConaughey survives a fall into a black hole.
Millions of people around the globe are drawn into the world of film every year. But how much truth is there in it?
Andreas Müller is an astrophysicist and moviegoer. In his book “Science Strikes Back!”, he takes Hollywood to task and conducts an entertaining fact-check: How much imagination is in these virtual adventures, which scenes are scientific nonsense, and in which films does Hollywood dare to take a realistic look into the future?
For years, Müller has been working to make astronomy more popular through countless articles and books, as well as lectures – even in schools. He is not only the editor-in-chief of the magazine “Stars and Space”, but also has been appearing since 2017 on the YouTube channel “Big Bang, Universe, and Life”, together with Josef M. Gaßner and Harald Lesch.
