Technische beschrijving Compound 9
If you don't have a 3D printer at hand, it is quite tedious to find a freely formable and at the same time stable material. Who has a kiln or a whole lab at home? Compound 9 doesn't need any of that: You don't need a special oven, gloves, or elaborate equipment, at most a kettle.
It's that simple: Compound 9 comes as granules in a bag. To melt it, you need a bowl and hot water between 50 and 100°C. If you have a hot hair dryer, you can use that too, or you can put the granules in the oven - but don't turn it up too hot! Heated, the granules melt and you can finally shape them with your hands. Since it conducts heat poorly, it doesn't feel that hot and can be handled without problems. Of course, you have to be careful when taking it out of the hot water or oven. ;)
When warm, the carbon behaves like clay and can be shaped into all sorts of forms. What do you need, a stand for your smartphone? New chess pieces? OK, that might still be a bit lame, but how about mechanical components or your own little designer lamp? Almost anything that could be made out of plastic is possible. The cooled shapes are very stable and can be repaired if needed - the cracked spot just needs to be reheated. You can also melt everything down again and start over, Compound 9 can be used again and again. You don't have to worry about harmful ingredients, Compound 9 is completely non-toxic.
