The name Fanta is derived from the German word Fantasie (fantasy), as Fanta was originally invented in Germany. So why is it in one of our USA boxes? The inventor of Fanta was actually an employee of the American Coca-Cola Company, who worked for the company in Germany in the mid-20th century. When some ingredients for Cola could no longer be delivered due to a trade embargo during World War II, a new drink was made from available ingredients and illegally imported sugar. It was so popular that it has survived to this day despite various changes in the recipe.
