Description NASA astronaut thermo effect mug
How do astronauts actually drink coffee? Of course, the closest answer is "from closed containers with a straw". But that's no longer quite so up-to-date: in 2008, astronaut Don Pettit had had enough of bagged coffee and designed a tapered container that could be used to drink coffee in space without a straw.
Of course, we normal earthlings don't have to make things so complicated for ourselves. But if you're still longing for that certain something from outer space, you won't be able to tear yourself away from this cup!
This NASA astronaut thermo effect mug is modeled on an astronaut suit: The "shoulders" of the suit feature the NASA logo and the American flag, while the handle of the mug is modeled on a hose for oxygen supply. The highlight of the cup is the helmet: when cool, it is completely black, but when hot liquids are poured into it, a reflection of the Earth's surface becomes visible in the helmet's visor. When the cup cools down, the visor turns black again.
You don't have to apply to NASA to see the earth through the eyes of an astronaut - this spacey effect cup will bring you pretty close to the experience ;)
