Description USB Mail Notifier
Are you waiting for an important email from your boss, but can't constantly check your mailbox because you urgently need to train for Counter Strike? With the USB Mail Notifier, you can still keep track of new messages!
Without having to log in to your mail program repeatedly, the USB Mail Notifier will notify you when you receive a new message. All you need to do is download and install the corresponding software and enter your mail account details there. The USB Mail Notifier then works in the background, so you can continue to use your PC normally. In the meantime, the status of your mailbox is indicated by the colored lights of the small box, which you can simply place on your desk - connected via USB.
A color gradient from green to yellow to red shows you how full your mailbox is. When you receive a new mail, the box lights up blue. In addition to the light, you can also signal the arrival of new mails with a sound from your PC and a notification on the desktop. Moreover, you can set the interval at which your inbox is checked (between once per minute to every 30 minutes), how many mails count as a full inbox (between 6 and 600), and how long the blue flashing announces a new message (between 10 and 60 seconds).
The USB Mail Notifier works with POP3 mail accounts like Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Outlook, or Outlook Express. Unfortunately, IMAP is not supported.
A newer version of the program (download) also has pre-configured settings for the web services Hotmail.com, AOL.com, and Mail.com. You can also use it to check multiple mail accounts as well as Facebook and Twitter accounts. Up to nine accounts are possible simultaneously, each can be assigned a unique color.
An independent Linux driver for the product can be found here. Speaking of Linux: moderately recent Linux kernels also provide the three LED channels (RGB) via
sysfs. For example, you can make the mail notifier light up green with "# echo 31 > /sys/class/leds/dream_cheeky5:green/brightness". :)
By the way, there is also a small program here that allows you to control the USB Mail Notifier via the Internet. The source code is provided so that you can program your own ideas based on it :)
